MicroAngioscope:Disposable Cardiovascular Endoscope

Mar 11, 2025

Vena Medical announced that its disposable vascular endoscope, MicroAngioscope, has been awarded the FDA "Breakthrough Device" designation. This is the first vascular endoscope to receive the FDA "Breakthrough Device" designation.

The MicroAngioscope is the first-ever device to enable direct intracranial angioscopy - providing real-time, high-definition imaging of the brain's blood vessels during diagnosis and treatment. The MicroAngioscope is a game-changer in stroke treatment.

Last year, MicroAngioscope completed the world's first clinical operation at Ottawa Hospital in Canada. This was also the world's first endoscopic treatment of a stroke patient using a disposable endovascular endoscope.

MicroAngioscope's FDA "Breakthrough Device" designation lays a solid foundation for subsequent FDA approval, and will also lay the foundation for the opening of the era of vascular interventional endoscopy. It is well known that basically all vascular interventional surgeries require X-ray (DSA) fluoroscopy for surgery.X-rays are like real-time navigation software used when driving. They can help doctors find the lesions, but since they cannot see the actual situation in front of the car, the driver needs to observe the specific situation in front of the car through the windshield and make an accurate judgment.

In current interventional surgeries, doctors only have navigation technology but do not have the technology to observe the details of the lesions by themselves.

Therefore, doctors can only determine the details of the lesions through preoperative CT, MR and intraoperative IVUS and other imaging technologies.None of these imaging techniques are as simple and clear as direct observation with an endoscope.

A single-use vascular endoscope such as the MicroAngioscope allows interventional physicians to find lesions through an endoscope just like gastroenterologists do, and observe the specific conditions of the lesions, thereby developing personalized treatment plans for patients. Therefore, the emergence of MicroAngioscope is a revolutionary breakthrough. In the future, vascular interventional surgery is expected to be performed under endoscopy, and the surgery will become simple, safe and reliable.

MicroAngioscope

The MicroAngioscope is a disposable vascular endoscope that is very thin - its diameter is only one-third of a millimeter.

A miniature camera and light source are built into its distal end, so it can record the conditions within the blood vessels in real time, and the camera can provide full-color images of the blood vessels.Doctors can observe the situation inside the blood vessels in real time on the display screen.

Because the MicroAngioscope is so thin and highly maneuverable, it can easily access veins and arteries, providing doctors with never-before-seen perspectives and helping them treat related diseases.

The MicroAngioscope joins the rest of the Vena Medical product line to form a complete stroke treatment solution.
