Olympus is back in India
Late yesterday (June 12), Olympus, a global leader in medical technology, announced a strategic move - plans to establish a research and development (R&D) and offshore Development center (ODC) in Hyderabad, India. This is Olympus' first R&D center investment in India. It aims to leverage India's rich technical talent and resources to further consolidate its leading position in the global medical technology field and inject new impetus into the development of local medical technology. In addition, Olympus will work with AIG Hospital in Hyderabad on a joint research project. It aims to leverage the clinical expertise and insights of AIG Hospitals to drive the development of innovative healthcare solutions to better meet the changing needs of patients around the world. Olympus currently has research and development centers in Japan, China, the United States and Europe, and the ODC in Hyderabad will be an important part of its global research and development network. Olympus is also planning to set up an in-house research and development center in India in the next few years.

Medtronic Surgical Robots (Mazor Robotics), layoffs in Israel
Medical device giant Medtronic will lay off 35 people in Israel, or about 3% of the Israeli workforce (about 1,200 employees). Most of the layoffs in Israel will come from Mazor Robotics, which Medtronic acquired to develop robotic navigation systems for spinal surgery.

FDA: Johnson & Johnson discontinued use of this product
On May 10, 2024, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Johnson & Johnson's Megadyne is voluntarily recalling its ultra-soft pediatric patient reflux electrode and discontinuing use of the product. Megadyne withdrew the product after reports of burns in patients using the electrodes. Root cause investigations include tests that show potential heat damage when multiple factors are present together.

2300 units: Mindray wins a large order in the United States
On January 11, 2024, Mindray announced a five-year agreement with WakeMed Health & Hospitals (WakeMed), North Carolina, the 970-bed healthcare system, which has selected Mindray monitors for three of its hospitals. Including Mindray BeneVision Central Monitoring System (DMS) and BeneVision N series monitors.
